DOUBLE THE TROUBLE II

Dans cette série de gravures j'explore la notion de l'identité, composée dans le regard de l'autre, dans son aspect physique et culturel. Ni double ni identique, l'autre nous renvoie une image dans laquelle on cherche une ressemblance et ainsi la différence.
La pensée – symbolisée par le cerveau – nous rend la 'possibilité' d'offrir attention à l'autre.
Entre le moi et moi-même, entre le moi et l'autre, entre l'intérieur et l'extérieur, entre ici et là - souffrance et désir, proximité et éloignement sont liés indissociablement.
Ironie ou sérieux, on en perd parfois la tête.
Précisément cette tête, si proche et néanmoins si inaccessible.

In this series of engravings I explore how we find our identity in the eyes of the other; both fhysically and culturally. We discover ourselves through others and in them we seek what we have in common, and thus how we differ.

Techniques: alu, spit-bite, zinc, chine appliqué, shellac based ink on zerkall 350gr, Japanese paper

colette cleeren

Born in Hasselt (Belgium)
Printmaker, draughtsman, painter, Colette Cleeren studied Graphic Arts at the Sint-Lucaspaviljoen in Antwerp and Graphic Arts and Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hasselt. She completed her training in various studios such as the Frans Masereel Centre. She has been invited for a residency in The Guanlan Original Printmaking Base in China. Her work has been selected for many national and international exhibitions. She received many national and a number of international awards. She lives and works in Antwerp (Belgium).
