Ximena Medina Sancho
(Santiago, Chile). She obtained her BA in Fine Arts with a specialization in Painting from the Universidad de Chile. She was a member of the historic Taller 99 in Santiago, where she trained as a printmaker. She has complemented her artistic training through various workshops, residencies, and printmaking courses in both Chile and Spain.
Her work focuses primarily on woodcut, intaglio, drawing, and the creation of artist’s books.
Her work explores natural environments that are in a constant state of vulnerability, whether due to the forces of nature or human intervention. It also investigates the relationship between territory and identity.
She has participated in numerous biennials and international printmaking competitions across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Her artistic work has received international recognition, including a Prize Nomination at the 12th Kochi International Triennial Exhibition of Prints in Japan (2023); an Encouragement Award at the 11th Hida Takayama International Contemporary Woodblock-prints Triennale, Japan (2020); selection in the 2020 National Art Acquisition Call by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage of Chile; and an Honorable Mention at the Awagami International Miniature Print Exhibition, Japan (2019), among others.
She has been awarded grants to carry out printmaking residencies, such as the one granted by Atelier Empreinte in Luxembourg (2024), and by Alfara Gráfica Art Center in Salamanca, Spain (2019 and 2025).
Her work is part of important collections, including Ino-cho Paper Museum in Kochi, Japan; National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts; Department of Drawings and Prints at the National Library of Spain; China Printmaking Museum in Guanlan; Museo Universitario del Grabado MUG, Universidad de Playa Ancha, Valparaíso, Chile, among others.
She currently lives and works between Madrid and Santiago, Chile.
