In Dreams (Xin)
This print was made for an exhibition entitled 'The Human Heart' at the Graphic Studio Gallery in Dublin in 2020. The Mind-Body (Mind-Heart) split was presented to me many years ago and it still fascinates me. To think logically with the mind as a normal western habit is to ignore the much more powerful, intuitive, emotional and fundamental force that is the human heart. The heart has its reasons of which reason knows nothing: We know this in countless ways. Blaise Pascal (1623-62)
There is an interesting story about Karl Jung’s interview with a Pueblo Indian Chief Ochwiay Biano or Mountain Lake. He asked the Chief what he thought of whites and his answer was: ‘’They always want something; they are always uneasy and restless. We do not know what they want. We do not understand them. We think they are all mad.” When Jung asks why he thinks they are all mad, Mountain Lake replies. “They say they think with their heads.” Jung answers, “Why of course, what do you think with?” The Chief, indicating his heart, said, “We think here.”
